Details | The importance of tourism to the economy is widely recognized. International tourism contributes to economic growth at the national level, while domestic tourism reduces income disparities among regions. As it is a growing industry, there is a strong interest in the economic impact of tourism. The tourism multiplier model and the input-output analysis are commonly used to measure the economic impact of tourism expenditure. However, both models have technical limitations because the interrelationships between tourism and economic activity are much more complex than these analytical methods assume. This paper explores how the system dynamics perspective can be used to analyze the economic impact of tourism, taking into account the domestic tourism issues highlighted by COVID-19. Specifically, the standard input-output model in tourism analysis is extended to a system dynamics model to simulate regional issues such as self-quarantine and population decline, providing insights into regional growth. |
