Details This article examines the relationship between the Unification Church and Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) from both external and internal perspectives—namely, the transnational religious and political networks on the one hand, and the ideological and strategic affinities within Japan’s conservative camp on the other. The connection traces back to Prime Minister Kishi Nobusuke and was closely tied to the construction of an anti-communist front during the Cold War. Over time, this alliance provided political legitimacy and mobilization resources for the right wing of the LDP, forming a structural resonance that went beyond mere mutual interest. The current political scandal involving the Unification Church should thus be understood not as an incidental collusion, but as the historical and ideological culmination of this deeply rooted entanglement.
