Details | This study examined how using a corpus affects revising English compositions in a foreign language setting. It aimed to understand the relationship between corpus data and its effectiveness in correcting various types of errors. Involving 93 Tokyo university students, the study involved writing essays, receiving coded error feedback, and revising these using a corpus query tool. Errors were categorized into omission, addition, and misformation using natural language processing, and tagged for part-of-speech. Results indicated that omission and addition errors were more effectively corrected using corpus data, while misformation errors showed lower correction accuracy, suggesting that certain error types are more amenable to corpus-based revision. |
