概要 | The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of corpus consultation on learning L2 collocations. The two-group (experimental vs. control) pre-post design was used. The participants were sixty Japanese EFL learners at the CEFR B1 to B2 level. The target word was “marrow” and how students learned collocational knowledge of the word through a corpus or dictionaries was investigated. The results show that the corpus was significantly more effective in improving the learners’ word associations and output of collocations than the dictionaries, while both the corpus and the dictionaries were significantly effective in memorizing collocations. The corpus users looked up fewer but more frequent collocations than the dictionary users. It is suggested that corpus consultation promoted the learners’ more profound understanding of the target word usage because of a corpus’s rich context and frequency information. |
